I love this reminder that if we stay close to the Lord and follow His spirit we will be lead to Him. That we will have joy, peace and be happy in spite of our circumstances.
Satan will try to tear us down make us question who we are and the little choices we make. He is creating an environment in our world where good is seen as bad by ‘society’ and poor choices and bad behavior is glorified. A prime example of this is the television shows that we (especially our youth) are taking in.
I was so excited when I heard about the show Glee. I love music and the idea of a show built around a glee club sounded great. At first I loved it. The music was fun and the characters entertaining, but the more I watched the more uncomfortable I became.
This is a show that glorifies bad choices in relationships, sex before marriage, youth pregnancy and abusive behavior between both adults and youth. It practically gives a road map on how school kids can bully others. What terrible examples, presented as though they are appropriate, normal and something we should strive for.
We must draw the line. Our youth, our families are just too important. We cannot just stand on the sidelines anymore. Not standing up to these types of shows and the behaviors they glorify puts our young women at greater risk for rape and abuse. It tells our young men that bad behavior is what girls want. In none of what I have seen of this show and others like it do you find individuals that are happy, deep down happy. In fact they often tell you that it is impossible to become so.
Deep down happiness only comes from inside, from a change of heart. A willingness to accept that you are important and that God loves you. He loves you so much that he gave you the ability to choose the path you take. What trust He has in us, what love. Only through our choices can we learn their value.
Satan would bind you; make you miserable, and have you question who you are and your values. I ask that you consider how you really feel after watching your ‘favorite’ shows. Do they give you a lift in your heart? Do you feel deep down happy? If not maybe you need to make some changes. We all learn by example, no matter our age, what examples are you surrounding yourself with? Does what you surround yourself ‘seem’ good or is it evil in disguise? Heavenly Father knows our day, gave us the scriptures to lead and guide us through this time with ‘conspiring men’ that would lead us astray. And, if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve. . . .As for me and my house, we will choose the Lord. -Joshua 24:1
